The Lady Dino softball squad spent Saturday in Richfield for a one-day tournament. Facing three different teams, Parowan, Canyon View, and Altamont, the Lady Dinos came away with a 1- 2 record, claiming a victory over Canyon View.

The Lady Dinos sit at 5-9 overall with a 0-3 mark in Region 13 play. The initial rankings from MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association will be released on April 3rd.

Carbon was down 9-0 as they came up in the top of the 4th, and after the first two batters registered outs, a pair of singles, and a runner hit by a pitch brought Alexa Jones up to the plate as she would single and bring in Lacie Gregersen and Kennlee Kennedy to score. Carbon would keep Parowan off the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth and through the fifth, as they headed into the top of the 6th.

In the top of the 6th, Kadence Vea would come up to the plate and send a single to left, bringing Bella Nelson into score. Bayleigh Sinclair was the next batter up, and she would hit a single to left as well, bringing Gregersen into score, cutting the Parawan lead to 9-4.

The Dinos were able to keep Parowan off the board again in the bottom of the sixth, heading into the top of the seventh. With two on, Sienna Alderson sent a double to left field, bringing Aleece Ardohain and Peterson home to score. One batter later, Nelson would send a single to centerfield, bringing Alderson home to get the Dinos within two at 9-7, but three batters later, Parowan would close out the inning and the game to take the win.

Ardohain was 2-4 with a run scored in the contest. Peterson went 2-3 with a run, Jones went 1-4 with two RBIs, and Alderson was 1-4 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs in the loss.

Sinclair started on the mound, going 2.1 innings with nine runs, four earned on four hits, and striking out one. Vea came in to finish the game, going 3.2 innings and striking out five.

In game number two, Carbon would face a familiar opponent in the Canyon View Falcons. The two teams played each other in Region 12, and this year, Carbon moved to Region 13. The Lady Dinos took control of this one early, taking the 12-7 win.

Carbon would get on the board in the first as Ardohain sent a grounder to center to bring Jones home and put the Dinos up 1-0. The Falcons came back to tie it up in the bottom of the inning, moving to the second.

The Dinos started the second with a pair of walks as Kennedy stepped up to the plate and fired a ground ball to left that was all Harli Heugly needed to score. Two batters later, Vea came up, sending a single to center, driving in Penovich and Kennedy to put Carbon up 4-1. Jones was up next as Josie Vea entered the game as a courtesy runner for Kadence Vea. Jones would ground into a fielder’s choice that allowed Josie Vea to score as the inning would come to a close two batters later. Canyon View would cut into the Carbon lead in the bottom of the frame, getting the score to 5-3.

Carbon had another big inning in the third. Penovich came up to bat with one on, sending a double to right to bring Gregersen in for the score. Two batters later, Nelson came up and sent a single to left to bring Penovich home. Up next was Kadence Vea, and with a line drive to center, Nelson and Kennedy scored to put Carbon up 9-3.

The Lady Dinos went quiet until the sixth, and after a pair of singles, Peterson found herself at the plate with two on and drove a ground ball single to short, bringing Jones in to score. An Alderson single in the next at-bat scored Ardohain from third, and after tagging up, Peterson scored on a Heugly sacrifice fly to center. Carbon would give up a pair of runs to Canyon View on a double to get the score to 12-7, but the Lady Dinos would close them out after that to take the win.

Jones was 2-4, scoring two runs and collecting an RBI for Carbon. Ardohain went 2-4 with a run and an RBI, Penovich was 2-3, scoring twice with an RBI, Kennedy went 2-3 with a run and one RBI, and Kadence Vea was 2-3, collecting four RBIs in the win.

Kadence Vea got the start on the mound, earning the complete game win with seven runs, five earned on eight hits, and struck out six.

The final game of the day was against the Altamont Longhorns. Carbon put up runs early, but the Longhorns overpowered the Dinos, taking the 14-3 win in four innings.

The Lady Dinos came up in the bottom of the first already down 3-0 and with two outs, Nelson doubled to left field, bringing Peterson and Gregersen in to score to cut into the Altamont lead at 3-2. The inning would end one batter later.

The botom of the second would begin with the Lady Dinos down 8-2. Carbon could only collect one run in the frame when Ardohain sent a line drive to center to bring Sinclair home. Neither team could plate any runs in the third, and a six-run fourth would put the game out of reach for the Dinos as Altamont took the 14-3 win.

Jones and Ardohain both were 1-2 with Ardohain adding an RBI. Peterson and Nelson each went 1-1, with Peterson scoring one run and Nelson collecting a pair of RBIs in the loss.

Preslee Lupo got the start on the mound, giving up 12 runs on seven hits. Sinclair would close out the game with two runs on one hit, striking out one.

Carbon will be off until April 9, when they travel to face the Duchesne Eagles.
