On Friday morning, the initial rankings for 3A softball were released. Compiled by MaxPreps and the Utah High School Activities Association, the standings will be updated throughout the season and then used for seeding at the State Championships. The Lady Spartans landed in the No. 9 spot while the Lady Dinos hold the No. 13 position.
Grantsville sits atop the rankings at 10-3. Union and North Sanpete are both members of the same region, as Emery and Carbon are in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Logan and Canyon View round out the top five.
The Lady Spartans sit at 2-9 overall and are 1-1 in Region 13 play. They have collected wins this season against No. 13 Carbon and No. 9 in 2A Parowan. Their last outing was against San Juan at the Richfield tournament, where they lost 16-0. They have a few non-region opponents remaining on their schedule, but will face region foe North Sanpete when they get back on the diamond in Castle Dale on April 7.
The Lady Dinos hold a 5-9 mark overall and are 0-3 in region play. They have wins over Canyon View, Corner Canyon, and Providence Hall from within the state, and Moapa Valley and Snake River from outside the state of Utah. The last game they played before the break was against the Altamont Longhorns at the Richfield Tournament, where they lost 14-3. Next Thursday, April 9, they travel to Duchesne to take on the Eagles, who are ranked No. 3 in 2A.
The rankings will be updated until the end of the season on May 6. The following day, Thursday, May 7, the final rankings and bracket will be revealed for the 3A State Championships, which will begin with State Championship pod matchups at home sites on May 9. Bracket play will begin on May 12-13 in Spanish Fork, with the Championships taking place on May 14 at Brigham Young University.
