
Getting back on the diamond during the Spring Break Holiday on Thursday, the Dinos welcomed the Salem Hills Skyhawks to Price. The Skyhawks used back-to-back big innings, putting up 12 runs to close out the Dinos in five innings, 16-6.
Carbon now sits at 6-9 overall and 0-2 in Region 13 play, holding the No. 9 spot in the latest rankings. Salem Hills, out of the 5A ranks, holds a 9-3 mark and is sitting in the No. 4 position in their rankings.
The Dinos found themselves down 2-0 when they came up in the bottom of the first, and Cash Withers sent a single to shortstop to bring in Logan Bennett to score. Three batters later with two outs, Maddux Willson came to the plate with the bases loaded and drove a double to left, bringing Adrian Vasquez, Jordon Nichols, and Withers into score giving the Dinos a 4-2 lead. They would add another run one batter later when Kanyon Grant singled to right, bringing Willson home.
Salem Hills added seven runs in a big third inning for them, and then held the Dinos scoreless for the bottom of the inning, then they turned around in the top of the fifth to add five more runs to go up 14-5.
The Dinos were able to plate one run in the bottom of the fourth when Vasquez grounded out to first, giving Bennett enough time to score to put the score at 16-6. The Skyhawks added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and then held Carbon scoreless to take the 16-6 win in five innings.
Willson went 1-3, scoring one run and adding three RBIs. Withers was 2-3 with a run and an RBI, and Bennett was 1-3 with a pair of runs.
Willson also got the start on the mound, going three innings with seven runs, two earned on five hits, and struck out two. Paxton Falk surrendered five runs, three earned, on five hits, and Logan Curtis had two earned runs on three hits. Kanyon Grant gave up a pair of earned runs on three hits, striking out one, and Wither finished the game, striking out one.
