Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Elizabeth Annie Dotson, age 80, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Liz was born on February 8, 1946, in North Salt Lake, Utah, to Elmer and Margaret Evans. She was the middle child of four sisters and one brother, a role that helped shape her into a natural peacemaker. From an early age, she became the calm in life’s storms, gifted in resolving conflicts and offering a steady voice of reason.
She graduated from Jordan High School and later attended cosmetology school. Liz was a proud and devoted mother of five children.
In 1976, she married Jim Dotson, Jr., and they shared 16 years of marriage. Although they later divorced, they remained supportive of one another throughout their lives, up until Jim’s passing.
Liz was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she found peace and strength in her belief in the Savior, Jesus Christ.
Liz worked at Utah Medical for over 20 years, where she formed lasting friendships and touched countless lives with her warmth and compassion.
Above all, Liz took the greatest pride in her roles as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a loving mother to her children, Cary, Scott, Cindy, and Jimmy. Her love only grew stronger as she became a grandmother and great-grandmother, bringing endless joy to her family. She found great joy in attending baseball and softball games, taking her grandchildren to the park, and going shopping with them. Each year, you could count on Grandma Lizzy being at Murray Park with her children and grandchildren for the Easter egg hunt. Many of her grandchildren will always treasure their special trips to the dollar store with Grandma Lizzy.
Liz had a deep love for the outdoors and was always eager to go camping, hunting, or fishing. She could spend hours by the water without a single catch and still call it a perfect day. She also enjoyed playing in both women’s and coed pool leagues—pool suited her well, allowing her to combine strategy with her natural patience. She especially cherished the holidays, when she loved making treats like fudge, divinity, and caramel popcorn. In quieter moments, she enjoyed crocheting baby blankets, working on crossword puzzles, and watching her favorite TV shows—so much so that each of her children and grandchildren could easily name the ones she loved most.
Liz is survived by her children: Cary Dotson; Scott (Julie) Dotson; Cindy (Troy) Larkin; and Jimmy (Amy) Dotson. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Josh Elkington; Angel (Stan) Brown; Ally (Alex) Gren; Emily (Chase) Torrence; Kamille Dotson; Cassie (DJ) Hamilton; Caden Dotson; Sashleigha (Adam) Hightower; Jodi (Brett) Barrus; Corby Larkin; Brady Larkin; Kourtney (Brady) Beagley; Collin (Carrissa) Rose; Triston (Kenzi) Rose; James (Paige) Dotson; Makayla Dotson; Peyton (Graycin) Dotson; Presley Dotson; Brinnley Dotson; Levi Dotson. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Taige, Zoey, Andre, Jaylia, Kylen, Evelyn, Grayson, Zayden, Waylon, Everly, Grayson, Hunter, McCoy, Celeste, Nehaeh, Zyra, Beckham, Asher, Paityn, Ivy. She is also survived by her siblings, Larry (Corrine) Evans and Mary (Allen) Fratto, along with many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Margaret Evans; her former husband, Jim Dotson; her sisters, Marlene and Cherie; her niece, Tammy; and her son, Sherl Lynn.
Liz leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and resilience. Her presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her beautiful spirit will live on in the hearts of those who love her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Intermountain Health IMC and Hospice for their tender care and support.
