The  Lady Spartan softball team traveled to Mount Pleasant on Friday to face the North Sanpete Hawks. This was the second meeting of the season between the two teams, and while Emery was looking to even up the season series, the Hawks were looking for the sweep, earning it by handing Emery the 4-3 loss.

Emery sits at 4-15 overall and holds the No. 9 spot in the most current rankings from MaxPreps. Earlier in April, the Hawks earned a 9-6 win in  Castle Dale.

The Spartans got on the board in the first inning when Elly Stilson collected a lead-off home run, sending the fourth pitch she saw over the center field wall. The Hawks answered back in the bottom of the inning, tying things up at 1-1. North Sanpete would take the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third.

Emery would go quiet until the top of the sixth, when Stilson came to the plate once again and sent another over the wall, this time in right field, driving in Zadriee Norton to grab the lead back, 3-2. The Hawks came back with a home run of their own, tying things up in the sixth. Later in the inning, they scored on a fielder’s choice to take the 4-3 lead, and then closed out the Spartans in the top of the seventh to take the win.

Stilson went 3-3 with two home runs, three RBIs, and scored twice for Emery. Bailey Luke went 1-3, and Norton was 1-2 with a run scored in the loss.

Elli Stoker got the start on the mound, putting in four innings worth of work, giving up two earned on five hits, and striking out two. Aliee Wilde closed out the contest and surrendered two runs, one earned on three hits, and struck out one.

The Lady Spartans have two games left in the regular season, both against Union. On Tuesday, they travel to Roosevelt to face the Cougars.

The regular season closes out on Friday when they will welcome the Cougars to Castle Dale on Senior Night.

Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
