Charles A. Tobin, Jr., affectionately known as Chuck or Toby, passed away peacefully at home on April 25, 2026, following a brief battle with pneumonia. He was 89 years old. Born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan, Chuck was born on January 29, 1937 to Charles A. Tobin, Sr. and Marian A. Burmeister Tobin.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for five years, spending much of that time aboard the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea. While serving, he was a member of the Military Police and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He belonged to the local American Legion Post #3, and his military service was a source of lifelong pride.

On July 26, 1957, Chuck married the love of his life, Betty Marie Record. Together they built a beautiful life and made their home in Sandy, Utah, where they raised their family and created countless cherished memories. They later retired to Sunnyside, Utah, where they continued their shared love of adventure.

Toby worked for many years as a skilled mechanic with IML Freight Lines, continuing his career and eventually retiring from PST/US Express. His mechanical knowledge, strong work ethic, and problem-solving abilities were respected by coworkers and relied upon by many.

Chuck was a devoted father to three children: Deanna M. Rhees (Jerry), Katherine E. Memmott (Gordon), and Michael B. Tobin (Patty). His legacy continues through 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, with two more great-great-grandchildren on the way—a testament to the deep love he had for his ever-growing family.

A man of many talents, Chuck was a master woodworker, creating beautiful and meaningful pieces for his beloved Betty and for members of his family across generations. He never sold his work, believing each piece was a labor of love. Known for his remarkable skill, Chuck could fix nearly anything electrical and was often the go-to problem solver for family and friends. He also loved exploring the deserts of Utah in his Jeep, finding peace and joy in the open land and quiet beauty.

Chuck cherished his trips to Michigan, where he enjoyed Lake Michigan and spent time with his mother, four sisters, one brother, and many nieces and nephews. His parents and siblings preceded him in death.

Above all else, he loved his children and his many descendants, taking great pride in the family he built. Chuck will be remembered for his sly sense of humor and his ability to surprise everyone with a perfectly timed joke. He leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, service, and laughter that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
