Thursday morning, the Utah High School Activities Association and MaxPreps released the final rankings and bracket for the 3A State Championships for softball. The Lady Dinos and the Lady Spartans will be on the road, but that doesn’t mean their opponents won’t be familiar to them.
Emery, who finished with an overall record of 4-18, landed in the No. 9 spot and will travel to Morgan on Saturday to take on the No. 8-seeded Trojans at 3:00 p.m. Back on April 11, the Spatans faced the Trojans at a tournament in Payson, with the Trojans coming away with a 14-6 win in a contest that was actually a lot closer than the final score would indicate. A win means a date with the No. 1 seed, Grantsville Cowboys. A loss would put the Lady Spartans in the one-loss bracket, meaning they would face the loser from the No. 2 North Sanpete-No. 7 Manti/ No. 10 Carbon match-up on Tuesday, May 12, in Spanish Fork at 2:30 p.m.
The Lady Dinos finished 8-18 overall and earned the No. 10 spot. They will travel to Manti to face the No. 7 Templars on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. With both teams playing in the same region, they faced each other twice in the regular season, with Manti winning both times. A win and they advance to take on the No. 2 North Sanpete Hawks, another Region 13 member. In both meetings, the Hawks were victorious. That game would take place in Spanish Fork on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. A loss drops them to the one-loss bracket, where they would face the loser of the No. 1 Grantsville-No. 8 Morgan/No. 9 Emery match-up on Tuesday, May 12, in Spanish Fork at 2:30 p.m.
The semifinals will wrap up play in Spanish Fork on Wednesday, May 13, and the Championship round will take place on Thursday, May 14, at Brigham Young University.
