Longtime Castle Dale resident, Dorothy May Lowry Childs, passed away on May 10, 2026. She was 97.

Dorothy was born in Colon, Panama on April, 1, 1929, to Lyle Revere and Vera Rose Marks Lowry. She moved to Castle Dale, Utah in 1937, a place that became her home, and she remained devoted to the community throughout her life.

Dorothy and Parker Henry Childs were sealed in the Manti Temple in 1949. Together they raised four children. She graduated from South Emery High School in 1947. She found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments, tending her garden, caring for her flowers, cooking meals for those she loved, and baking homemade bread that warmed both home and heart. For 22 years, she faithfully drove a school bus, becoming a familiar and caring presence to countless children and families in the community. She treasured her friendships deeply and loved spending time with those closest to her. Above all, her greatest joy was her family, whom she loved with all her heart. Dorothy was known for her uplifting spirit, warmth, and positivity. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Allen Childs (Colleen), Debra McCarl (Michael) and Diane Hagara (Bob); four grandsons, Jason Childs (Kelly), Jared Childs (Hollie), Mitch Childs (Shelly), Colby Childs (Angelica); and one granddaughter, Amber Lowrey (Jeremy); as well as 15 great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grand littles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Parker; parents, Lyle and Vera; siblings, Fred, Mervin, Virginia, and George; and her son Kim, and his wife Juanita, and their beautiful son, Mason. The family finds comfort knowing they were there to guide her and welcome her home with love.

The family would like to recognize the caring and compassionate staff at Emery County Care and Rehab Center, who lovingly supported and cared for her throughout her final months with us.
