
The Lady Spartans traveled to Roosevelt on Thursday to take part in the Union Tournament drawing the host team the Union Cougars in their first outing. Emery was in control throughout the contest taking the 50-32 win.
Coming off the 70-46 loss to South Sevier earlier in the week Emery was looking to get a fast start and they did doubling up the Cougars 10-5 in the first quarter they would carry that momentum into the second as Emery clamped down defensively surrendering just three points and adding more to their own total taking a 20-8 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Spartans were able to keep their foot on the gas and kept the game out of reach of Union as they added 16 more points to their side of the scoreboard closing out the third and pushing the Emery lead to 15 at 36-21.
In the fourth and final quarter, the Lady Spartans dialed things back a little but still maintained their edge over the Cougars. Emery added another 14 and earned the win over Union 50-32.
Katelyn Nielson led the way for Emery scoring 17. KaBree Gordon scored 11, and Elly Stilson and Aleeyah Cowley each scored seven in the win.
Emery gets back on the court on Friday when they take on 4A Uintah. The Lady Utes ended last season 6-18 going 3-7 in region play and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Desert Hills. Last season Emery earned the 66-44 win over Uintah.
