Excitement was in the air and on the airwaves on Wednesday, Dec. 4, as residents of Emery County gathered at Huntington City Hall for a ribbon-cutting ceremony courtesy of the Emery County Business Chamber. The occasion? Castle Country Radio debuting its hit classic rock station Rock 103 in the county.
The process for getting the station in the county began years ago when Owner and Operator Paul Anderson found a frequency for sale in Huntington and decided to purchase it. This kick-started a long process, which included the construction of a new radio tower on Horn Mountain.
“This is the first licensed radio station based in Emery County,” explained Anderson,” Kickin’ Country, The Peak and KOAL all pick up over here, but this is the first licensed station that broadcasts directly from Emery.”
This new addition to the Castle Country Radio family continues the storied tradition of radio excellence and innovation within the Castle Country Area. Starting in 1936, Castle Country Radio first hit the airwaves in Carbon County in 1936 with KEUB. In 1976, the area’s first FM station debuted with KARB. In June 2006, ‘active adult contemporary’ station KRPX made its debut, and now with the addition of Rock 103, the future of radio in the Castle Country area is brighter than ever.
Anderson also spoke on some early plans for the station,” We want to do more promotions specifically for Emery County. With this being the first licensed station in the area, we want to do everything we can to serve the community.”
For residents of Emery County, Rock 103 can be listened to on frequency 105.3 FM. You can also stream the station online at castlecountryradio.com or on the Castle Country Radio app.
