Coming off a dominant win over San Juan last Thursday at the Spartan Center, the Lady Spartans were on the road in Kanab over the weekend for the Kanab Tournament. Playing two games over the stretch Emery was unable to collect a win against Draper APA and Pineview returning home with a 3-6 mark overall.
In the opening game with Draper APA, this game was played as closely as a game could be. Both teams were equally matched, as the first half came to a close with both teams tied at 23 heading into the locker room.
In the second half, once again in the third, the two teams matched each other basket for basket and the score would remain tied heading into the final quarter, where Draper APA would find a way to get the three-point edge taking the 53-50 win.
Aaliyah Baldwin of the Eagles had 35 to lead all scorers
A trio of Lady Spartans, Elli Stoker, Kabree Gordon, and Aleeyah Cowley each scored 12 in the loss.
On Saturday, Emery would take on the Pine View Panthers from 4A. Pine View would build on their lead in the first and fourth quarters to earn the 63-48 win.
In the opening quarter, Pine View would take an opportunity to build a small lead holding the Lady Spartans to 11 and scoring 19 to carry an eight-point lead into the second. The Panthers matched their point total by scoring 19, but Emery found the offense and added 18 more to cut into the lead going to the locker room at halftime 38-29.
In the third, the Panthers turned up their defense again by holding the Lady Spartans to seven points in the quarter adding 13 of their own as the two teams went into the fourth with Pine View holding the edge 51-36. In the final eight minutes, each team added a dozen points and the Panthers would still hold the lead taking the win 63-48.
Katelyn Nielson led all scorers with 16 for Emery. Kali Jensen had 10 and Megan Stilson added nine in the loss.
Emery will be back in the friendly confines of the Spartans Center on Tuesday night to face the Delta Rabbits in the region opener.
