The Pinnacle boy’s basketball squad was on the road over the weekend traveling to Water Canyon on Friday and facing off with Escalante on Saturday. The Panthers had a rough weekend as they were unable to find wins in either contest
In the contest on Friday night, the Panthers took on the Water Canyon Wildcats. Pinnacle started slowly in the first scoring just three points while the Wildcats put up 12 in the quarter. Moving into the second quarter each team was a little more balanced as the Panthers were able to score 12, however, the Wildcats managed 13 and would take a 25-15 lead at halftime.
In the second half, it was a tale of two quarters with Water Canyon owning the third quarter outscoring the Panthers 17-8 to build upon their lead taking a 42-23 edge to the final quarter. Pinnacle would turn around and outscore Water Canyon 15-8, but the Wildcats had built too big of a lead they hung on and took the 50-38 win.
Dynonte Blackmore of Water Canyon led all scorers with 18 in the game.
Joey Howell had 13 in the contest for the Panthers. Brody Howell added eight and Dominick Vigil had seven in the loss.
On Saturday, the Panthers traveled to Escalante to face the Moquis.
The Panthers were outgunned in the first quarter as the Moquis came out and scored 26 while holding Pinnacle to 11. Moving into the second things slowed down a bit but Escalante held their edge outscoring the Panthers 12-8 taking a 38-19 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the third, Pinnacle came out and tried to regroup as they outscored the Moquis 12-10 but were unable to crack into the Esacalante lead heading into the fourth. The Moquis were able to collect another 15 and held the Panthers to seven as they closed out Pinnacle 63-38.
Brody Howell scored 10 to lead the Panthers. Joey Howell added nine and Riley Davis scored seven in the loss.
The Panthers will head back on the road Friday night to face Altamont.
