One of the most storied rivalries in College Football is the one between Army and Navy, as the two schools have played 125 games against each other, with Navy holding the all-time edge with a record of 62-55-7, but Army holding a two-game win streak heading into their yearly matchup on Saturday, Dec. 14.
In the Castle Country Area, not only can you watch this historic rivalry, but you can do so while supporting a good cause at the American Legion Post 39’s Army/Navy watch party. Post Commander Don Gardner stopped by the KOAL newsroom to speak on the event and what programs it will benefit.
“The Army-Navy watch party is one of the largest rivalries in football, and we thought it’d be a good way of getting the community together and help us with our cause with the Sub for Santa that we’re doing, Combat Santa,” explained Gardner. “ It’s basically like Toys for Tots or the Angel Tree. It’s a way for us to help some of the less fortunate in our community and give some toys, give some kids a good Christmas.”
Of course, when it comes to a rivalry showdown, everyone has a favorite they’re hoping to win. We asked Gardner who he thinks is going to win the 125th Army v. Navy game,” it’s going to be a good game. Army has done a heck of a job this season … I’ve got to vote for Navy because I am a Marine and they’re part of the Navy.”
In closing, Gardner simply stated,” Just come out and help us.”
Tickets for the watch party cost $20, but if you’re interested you should purchase them as soon as possible as the event is limited to 50 seats. Tickets can be purchased through this link, or by scanning one of the several flyers hanging across the Castle Country Area. The American Legion Post 39 Army/Navy Football watch party will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14 starting at 1 p.m. at 25 North Main in Orangeville.
