Gardening is a hobby loved by the community within the Castle Country. As well-loved as it is, some people can’t seem to find their footing and get frustrated due to lack of success. If you find yourself in this situation, don’t fret, as the Utah State University Extension program has you covered with their Castle Country Gardening series of workshops. To discuss the classes, Castle Country Radio was joined by Rowe Zwahlen and Steven Price who provided an insider’s look at what’s being offered.
Kicking things off, Zwahlen explained what this course covers,” So we’re going to start out learning about vegetables. In February, we’ll talk about edible landscapes. March is going to be Waterwise turf and some turf alternatives that are becoming more popular. And then in April, we are going to be talking about how to battle weeds.”
Price then chimed in, offering insight into how the class can benefit gardeners both new and old,” We’re giving you good locally based information. So not something that works best back east or something that works great in Logan, but maybe doesn’t quite translate to our climate.” Price added,” We have a tough climate, tough soils, lots of different issues here. So we are gearing everything toward local Castle Country gardeners and homeowners.”
In closing, Zwahlen shared,” We just encourage you to come out. We always have a great time. We love meeting people who are interested in gardening.”
USU Extension’s Castle Country Gardening workshops will be held the fourth Wednesday of each month from January until April starting at 6 p.m. and going until 7:30 p.m. The workshops cost $5 for an individual class or $20 for the entire series. To register, you can call Extension at 636-3235 or online on Eventbrite.
