Both the boy’s and girl’s wrestling squads took part in the North Sevier Invitational. With 14 teams on the boy’s side, the Spartans earned a tenth-place finish, and in the girl’s division, the Lady Spartans finished 12th out of 19 teams.
Battling wrestlers from around the state, the boys were able to finish in tenth place out of 14 teams in attendance.
Dixon Peacock finished in the 120-pound class in third place. Peacock received a bye in the first two rounds, his only loss would come from Delta’s Uriah Anderson who would win by a technical fall. Peacock would battle back to the third-place match where he earned a win by a major decision over Decker Ford from Juab.
Corbin Jensen at 132 pounds went 4-2 finishing in fifth place after getting a bye in the first round, he dropped his quarterfinal match to James Crowley of North Sevier by a 9-3 decision. Jensen was handed another loss, this time by Saul Gamino of Box Elder by an 11-9 decision. He earned a spot in the fifth-place match taking a win by a major decision over Tredun Osborne of Juab.
Joshua Howard finished 2-2 at 285 pounds. Howard got a pair of byes for the first two rounds. After winning his quarterfinal match over Dansen Adams of Millard by pin, he would fall in his semifinal match-up with Colman Thorson of Richfield by pin. His next match was against Richfield’s Tevon Vakautakakala who was able to pin Howard. In his final match, he would meet up with Millard’s Adams again and he would take the victory by pin to finish in fifth.
The Lady Spartans also took part in the invitational finishing in 12th out of 19 teams.
Dazi Thatcher took first place going undefeated in all her matches. In the first-place match, she faced Keeley Hansen of Manti winning by pin.
Both Spartan teams will be back on the mats on Tuesday when they travel to take on the Dinos at Carbon High in Price.
