First-year state Rep. Logan Monson is already making a name for himself on Utah’s Capitol Hill. On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson named Monson the “Legislator of the Day.”

The “Legislator of the Day” is a social media award that Lt. Gov. Henderson presents each day during the legislative session. Monson is the 12th legislator to earn the award during the 66th Utah State Legislature.

In a post on social platform X, Henderson shared why Monson was selected,” It’s Rep. Logan Monson’s first year in the legislature, but he is no stranger to representing rural communities, having previously served as a city council member and mayor of Blanding.” The post continues,” He currently serves on two committees and is working on a bill to give an income tax credit to first responder volunteers.”

The bill Henderson references is HB275, a piece of legislation Monson has spoken about with Castle Country Radio,” Things are getting expensive for people. And I wanted to try and find a way that we can still incentivize people to be volunteers, but also give them a little bit of a break financially when it comes to just life and making things work.”

Monson is an administrative nurse by trade in addition to his previous roles as a councilman and mayor in Blanding.

Monson has also introduced a new piece of legislation this week, HB421, which amends the process of what approvals the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources needs to acquire before purchasing a grazing permit. This includes permissions from a local land use authority, the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Agriculture and Food.

In a social media post, Monson stated,” Working hard to get good things done,” in response to the announcement.

Castle Country Radio would like to congratulate Rep. Monson and thank him for his service to the Castle Country Area and beyond.
