Green River is one of Utah’s true hidden gems. Tucked away in Eastern Utah and featuring scenic vistas and historic landscapes, those who stop to experience the city will be amazed by what they see. To help more people experience this feeling, the City is hosting the Energized Expedition, a scavenger hunt aimed at helping tourists and citizens alike explore the area.
Green River Event Coordinator Robin Hunt called into the KOAL Newsroom to discuss what the expedition is all about.
“It’s a self-led scavenger hunt.” Explained Hunt,” You get started at the John Wesley Powell Museum here in Green River, and then you’ll have a clue there. That will lead you to another location with nine locations total around Green River.”
Hunt continued, “Essentially you’re taking a selfie with each of the trail markers. The trail markers are what the next clue is. So you’re going to take a picture with that and you’re going to either post it to social media with the hashtag Energize Expedition, or you’re going to go ahead and email it togreenriverutahevents@gmail.com. This event is intended to highlight some of the awesome things around Green River and Emery County. We plan to do it every year.”
With each location found, participants will earn one entry into an opportunity drawing which will be held at the Expedition’s closing BBQ on Saturday, March 8 at the O.K Anderson Park starting at 1 p.m. The grand prize winner will take home $2000.
“We’re going to have door prizes. We’re going to have good food. We’re going to have some games. And so it’s worth coming, even if you only make it to one location because you can win some more prizes just by showing up there.”
For those who want to participate in the Energized Expedition, all you have to do is visit the John Wesley Powell Museum to start your journey. But the clock is ticking as the deadline to submit entries is on Feb. 28.
In closing, Hunt said, “You can learn a little bit more about this expedition by going to visitemerycounty.com or by giving me a call at 435-820-0592.”
