The Price City Council convened on Wednesday, Feb. 12, for its biweekly meeting. In a shortened meeting, only one discussion item was placed on the agenda: a discussion between city officials and Jill Emerson, the Utah commissioner for Babe Ruth baseball, to bring the Pacific 12 regional tournament to the city in July.

Emerson opened the discussion by explaining she was here to request a donation and work out details for the regional tournament, which will be held from July 20 through July 26. “Teams will come and stay for that duration of time. During this time, we will also need to reserve the high school baseball field.”

Another request from Emerson was a reservation for Washington Park and a pavilion within. “We are asking to see if we could get a microphone and stage set up at that time to have our barbecue.”

The tournament was also looking for a venue for check-in, with Mayor Micheal Kourianos suggesting city hall. The only problem this posed for both parties is that the check-ins will be held on Sunday, with the council hesitant to make workers come in over the weekend.

To solve this problem, Kourianos said he would be present on check-in day to open the facility and ensure smooth operation on the city side.

“I think this is beneficial to the community,” spoke Kourianos to those in attendance,” now that tournaments have someplace to go, they can showcase what we can do.”

The last hurdle the council had to clear was a donation to the regional tournament. The finances show $1000 for the fiscal year, which can be used to donate to tournaments. The motion was made that this $1000 be given to the organization. In addition to this, the council waived the fees associated with the use of Washington Park and other city facilities. Emerson thanked the council for their donation and time before exiting the pulpit.
