Palmbaum arrives in Price, Utah, following a highly successful tenure at Kansas Wesleyan University, where he led the Coyotes to a 24-11-5 record over two seasons. Under his leadership, KWU made its first national tournament appearance in six years and received the NAIA Champion of Character Team award. His impact was immediate, guiding the program to a record-breaking turnaround, elevating them from a national ranking of #246 in 2022 to a top-30 position in 2024. In addition to his on-field achievements, Palmbaum prioritized academic excellence, overseeing 22 Daktronics scholar-athletes in 2024 and maintaining a 3.4 team GPA.

Palmbaum’s coaching career spans decades, with previous roles at institutions such as Stephens College (NAIA), Northern Michigan University (NCAA D2), and the University of Tulsa (NCAA D1), where he served as head coach from 1985 to 1989. His experience extends beyond the collegiate level, including stints with professional clubs like the Reno Rattlers (USISL) and international academy coaching at Estudiantes de La Plata in Argentina.

A former professional player himself, Palmbaum’s playing career included time with the LA Lazers (ASL) as well as stints in Europe with Fulham FC (UK), AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands), and SV Hoofddorp (Netherlands). His understanding of the game from both a player’s and coach’s perspective, combined with his USSF National A & B Coaching Licenses and international coaching certifications, positions him as a valuable leader for USU Eastern.

USU Eastern Athletic Director, Jess Brinkerhoff, expressed enthusiasm about the hire, stating, “Bruce brings an impressive track record of program development and player success. His ability to build competitive teams while fostering academic achievement aligns perfectly with our vision for USU Eastern men’s soccer.”

Palmbaum’s focus at USU Eastern will be on continuing the program’s competitive growth, enhancing recruitment efforts, and developing a strong culture of discipline and excellence. With his experience in recruiting both domestic and international talent—evident from his 99-player recruitment class at KWU—he aims to elevate the program’s standing within the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

USU Eastern men’s soccer fans can look forward to an exciting new chapter under Palmbaum’s leadership as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
