The Pinnacle Panthers basketball squads are getting back to work for the 1A State Championships. On Saturday, the Lady Panthers will travel to Monticello to face the Buckaroo in a play-in game, and then on Monday, the boys welcome the Altamont Longhorns.
The Lady Panthers’ regular season ended on Thursday, February 13, when they welcomed the Monticello Buckaroo to Price, falling 35-27. They will begin their postseason on Saturday when they travel to face the Buckaroo again. The Lady Panthers were outscored 71-60 in their two previous meetings and lost both.
Senior Heather Kerr has led Pinnacle this season, averaging 14.6 points per game. Kerr also adds 2.4 blocks per game. Senior Jostyn McLean is averaging 10.9 rebounds per game. Kaydence Romero, also a senior, leads the team in two categories: steals (3.4 per game) and assists (2.1 per game).
Pinnacle girls finished the regular season with an 8-15 overall record, landing them in the No. 17 spot. This means the game with Monticello is a play-in game. A loss ends the season, and a win would move them into the unenviable position of facing the No. 1-seeded Rich Rebels on Wednesday, February 26, at the Sevier Valley Center.

The Pinnacle Panther boys’ team also ended its regular season on Thursday against the Buckaroos, suffering a 62-39 loss. They will face the Altamont Longhorns at home on Monday evening. These teams have faced each other once before this season in Altamont, with the Longhorns taking a 48-38 win.
Junior Brody Howell led the Panthers in scoring this season, averaging 12.5 points per game. He also led the team in rebounds with 8.5 per game. Junior Joey Howell dished out 4.1 assists per game, senior Gavone Larsen averaged just under two steals per contest, and Diego Contreras, a junior, averaged a block per game.
The Pinnacle boys closed out the season with an 8-15 overall record, putting them in the No. 16 spot, which means they will host the Longhorns. A loss and the season ends, and a win moves them to the next round, where they will face the No. 1 seed, the Rich Rebels, on February 26 at Richfield High School.
The contest with Altamont is set for 7:00 p.m. on Monday in the Pinnacle gym.
