A rivalry showdown opened the soccer season for the Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans, as the two squads took the pitch on Wednesday, March 6. It was all gas and no breaks for the Dinos, putting up five of their seven goals in the first half as they cruised to a 7-0 shutout victory.

The story of the game was a five-goal first half, as Carbon overpowered the Spartans early with unrelenting pressure. The Dinos added two more in the second half to dominate the matchup 7-0.

Luke Brady led Carbon’s attack, scoring a hat trick. Tyler Morris added two goals, and Case Griffith and Logan McEvoy each added one. Morris was also credited with two assists. Tayger Timothy and Donavyn Prescott showed off some passing prowess, each getting an assist of their own.

Cannon Mortensen came away with the shutout in the goal, anchoring a stifling defense and ending the afternoon with two saves.

The Dinos move to 1-0 on the young season while Emery falls to 0-1. Carbon now sets their sights on a trip to Cedar City on Friday, March 7, to face the Canyon View Falcons, who are coming off a 0-0 (5-4 PKs) win over the Delta Rabbits.

Emery will also travel down south to face the Pine View Panthers on Saturday, March 8.
