A new charity has made its way into Castle Country. First Choice Repurposed Goods and Donation Center seeks to bring a new thrift store experience to the area while putting the profits back into the community through sidewalk repair. Founder Barbara Brown joined the KOAL newsroom to explain the charity and how it aims to accomplish its mission.
“We’re a thrift store. So, we’re hoping that people get behind the idea and will donate the goods that they’re finished with,” shared Brown. “We would love any help they would like to give us. Donations, of course, would be one way. We could also use volunteers if volunteers would like to come out and just get behind us and talk to the people who bring the donations. It’s a community effort.”
Brown then spoke about what inspired her to open this shop: ” I was thinking about what type of nonprofit would be helpful to everyone in the community. And so, I started thinking about it, and I thought, it’s hard for cities to get to the sidewalks because they are kind of messed up.” She continued,” I was thinking about safety and tourists and just something that people could look at and feel good about the city. So I decided to use the profits for fixing the sidewalks and landscaping projects around Carbon County and Emery County.”
Brown’s efforts have already begun, purchasing a property at 592 East Main Street in Price to act as a home base for the charity.
Preparations are already underway for First Choice Repurposed Goods’ grand opening on Saturday, March 22. To help gather items for the occasion, the donation center will host a donation drive on Saturday, March 15.
Speaking of the emotions she wants customers to experience as they explore the store, Brown stated,” Maybe a little bit of nostalgia, but I also like to have a nice, clean environment. We keep our donations clean. We take everything and spruce them up a little bit before putting them out.”
“I just hope that people can get behind this idea and know that when they donate to our nonprofit, their funds will be used 100% for the things that we commit to,” said Brown. ” I just want everyone to be able to benefit from it.”
