Last weekend, the Carbon boys’ volleyball team participated in a small school tournament at American Heritage Academy, earning a first-place finish. On Tuesday, they were back at American Heritage to face the Patriots. After taking a five-set win over the weekend, Tuesday was a different story as the Dions fell in straight sets, 3-0.
The Dinos went 3-2 over the weekend, defeating Vanguard Academy in the Championship game in straight sets 3-0. In Tuesday’s meeting with the Patriots, each set was a battle, with the largest margin of victory being just four points in one set.
In the opening set, the Dinos and Patriots came out to assert their dominance, but American Heritage took the 25-21 win as the dust settled.
Sets two and three were tight, with each team pushing the other back and forth. Carbon was unable to win either, as the Patriots won both sets by the same score, 27-25.
Grant Mathis collected eight assists, four digs, and a service ace for the Dinos. Charles Tima had five kills and four digs, and Kyler Orth collected five kills, five digs, three blocks, and a pair of service aces in the loss.
The Dinos’ loss puts them at 4-5 overall and 1-2 in region play. The initial RPI will be released on April 5.
The Dinos will be back on the road on Thursday, traveling to face the Providence Hall Patriots. Carbon will return home on March 25 when they welcome the Juan Diego Soaring Eagles.
