The Carbon County Chamber of Commerce hosted its monthly luncheon on Thursday, March 20. As is tradition at these luncheons, the Chamber spotlighted two local businesses and a community-oriented organization: The Swell Plumber, Amanda Wheeler Photography and the Miss Carbon County Scholarship Organization.

Kurt Madsen, owner of the Swell Plumber, kicked things off. “I’ve been in the plumbing industry for over 30 years,” said Madsen. “I do all sorts of stuff: water line repair, drain line repair, tons and tons of training and water treatment.”

Closing his time in the limelight, Madsen shared,” I just specialize in normal residential plumbing service needs. I cover Carbon County, Emery County and surrounding areas.”

The Swell Plumber can be contacted at 801-636-9052 or email Madsen at kurt@theswellplumber.com.

Next to take the stage was Amanda Wheeler and her photography business. Wheeler has operated her business for over 11 years, with the latest addition coming in 2022, when she opened an indoor studio for shoots. “I can offer location sessions and in-studio sessions,” expressed Wheeler.

From maternity to marriage shoots, Wheeler has you covered with high-quality photography.” Anything that’s a portrait of a person that I can really connect to, I really enjoy.”

Rounding out the recognition was a community spotlight for the Miss Carbon County Scholarship Organization, which included Mini Miss Addalynn Jones, Little Miss Paisley Jenkins, Junior Miss Taylee Bower, and Miss Teen Burcklee Brady.

Brady first took the mic to explain her platform, “Hashtag Social Media Smart,” which emphasizes social media safety.” When I was in sixth grade, I got an Instagram account. And I got a message on there asking for personal information and personal pictures. And I thought it was super cool that they were willing to pay me money for some stuff like that. But I turned it into my mom and she said it was not a good idea.” Brady has written a book about her story and provided tips on social media safety.

Junior Miss Taylee Brower also spoke on her platform, “The Little Voice Movement.” “It’s built around self-confidence and being kind to one another … I’m going to make kindness cards with them so that everybody knows when they go into Junior High or when they go into the next grade that they can have those tips and can be confident in themselves the next year.”

Rounding out the royalty were Jenkins and Jones. Jenkins spoke on her favorite part of being in the organization: ” Probably the parades we went to, but I’m excited for the upcoming events and just hanging out with these beautiful girls.” Jones added to this, saying she,” likes to hang out with my sash sisters.”
