Friday, the Emery Spartan baseball club welcomed the Juab Wasps to Castle Dale, facing them for the second time in a week. The Spartans started quietly, and their late-inning rally fell just short in the 6-5 loss.

The loss drops Emery to 3-10 overall and has them still looking for their first Region 12 win at 0-4. Earlier in the week, the two teams squared off in Nephi with the Wasps taking an 11-5 win.

The Wasps plated runs in the first and third innings to push the score to 3-0. Heading to the bottom of the fourth, the Spartans were able to get a run across to cut into the lead. Juab and Emery would trade runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and Juab added two more in the top of the seventh inning to push their lead to 6-2.

The Emery rally started with two outs and two on as Hayden Abrams came to the plate, hitting a triple to deep center to drive in Garrett Conover and Hayden Christiansen. Tyce Larsen came up to bat next, sending a ground ball to center, bringing the score to 6-5. That was as close as the Spartans would get, as Juab would end the game to take the win.

Larsen was 2-3 from the plate with an RBI. Trygg Jensen went 2-4, and Abrams was 1-3 with two RBIs and scored two runs in the loss.

Trevin Gilbert got the start on the mound, going four innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits and striking out two. Abrams got in some work, surrendering three runs, two earned, on five hits and striking out three.

The Spartans travel to Delta for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

They return home on Wednesday to face Judge Memorial, game time is set for 3:30 p.m..
