The war on drugs continues along I-70 in Emery County as a recent drug bust led to the seizure of 600 doses of LSD, 100 MDMA pills and over five ounces of illegal drugs. This bust occurred at a traffic checkpoint on I-70, where a deputy from the Emery County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Kelsey James Koster and booked her into jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

The deputy’s suspicion was raised when, while assisting with a traffic stop near exit 131, he noticed a silver van take the exit without a turn signal, roll through a stop sign, and stop on the on-ramp.

Acting quickly, the deputy initiated a traffic stop. Of the van’s two occupants, the arrest report singles out Koster. Gathering information, the deputy began a records request while waiting for K-9 assistance.

Upon arrival, the K-9 indicated the presence of drugs.

The vehicle was searched, which led to the discovery of over 138 grams of suspected illegal substances – including what deputies infer to be psilocybin mushrooms, methamphetamine, ketamine and ecstasy. Additionally, the search yielded 557 LSD acid tabs, THC resin, a THC vape cartridge and several items of marijuana paraphernalia.

Following the search, Koster was arrested and booked into the Emery County Jail. She faces six counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute – a second-degree felony. Other charges include drug possession, a class-A misdemeanor; paraphernalia possession, a class-B misdemeanor; and failure to signal.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
