The Carbon Dino baseball squad started their Spring Break on Tuesday by welcoming the Richfield Wildcats to Price.  This was the first of two meetings this week between the teams, and needless to say, it didn’t go the way Carbon wanted, a 6-4 Richfield win.

The Dinos were coming off a win over Delta on Friday, 3-1, which gave them the season sweep. Carbon sits at 5-9 overall and 3-2 in  Region 12 play. The Dinos also sit in the No.13 spot in the just-released RPI rankings.

The score was tied 1-1 when the Dinos came up in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, Maddex Willson came to the plate and hit a single to right to drive in Tyrus Madsen. Paxton Falk stepped into he box and drew a walk, bringing Kanon Childs in to score. On batter later, with Logan Bennett at the plate, Mike Vigil would score on a wild pitch to take a 4-1 lead.

Richfield added one run in the fourth to make the score 4-2, and it stayed that way until the top of the sixth, when the Dinos’ game plan unraveled. The Wildcats tied the game and then took the lead 6-4. In the bottom of the seventh, the Dinos couldn’t generate any offense and lost game one to Richfield, 6-4.

Willson was 3-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Rydge Butler went 2-4, and Falk was 2-1 with a pair of RBIs in the loss.

Stockton Kennedy got the start on the mound, going 5.2 innings, and he gave up four runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out four. Willson entered the game to go 1.1 with two earned runs on three hits and struck out two.

The Dinos will return to the diamond on Friday when they travel to Richfield for the second meeting of the regular season.
