
The Carbon track and field squad made their annual trip to Emery High for the Darrell Gardner Invitational. Carbon earned the top spot out of 12 teams in the boys’ division, and the Lady Dinos took second in the girls’ division out of nine teams.
North Summit finished first on the girls’ side with 153.0; Carbon landed in second with 117.5. Emery (102), Monticello (67.5), and North Sanpete (49.0) rounded out the top five.
The Lady Dino relay teams took two first-place finishes in the races they participated in. In the 4×100, the team of Ivy Beecher, Malia Smith, Brooklyn Lowe, and Emma Bowman crossed the finish line with a time of 51.74. Then, in the 4×400, Bowman was joined by Rebecca Swasey, Elsie Morley, and Gianna White to take the top spot with a time of 4:12.05.
Bowman finished second in the 100 meters, followed by Beecher and Lowe, who tied for third. McKinlie Sharp finished third in the 100-meter hurdles, and Lowe took second in the 200. Josie Jespersen claimed a fourth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.
In distances, White took second in the 400, while Haley Jones claimed fifth place in the 800. Josie Yates finished third in the 1600, followed by Jones in fourth. Yates also earned fourth in the 3200.
Lowe claimed second in the shot put in field events, and Sharp finished fourth in the high jump.
The Carbon boys earned first place in their division with 135 points, and North Summit took second with 110. North Sanpete (168), Bryce Valley (49.5), and Monticello (42.5) made up the top five.
Carbon collected points in distances, with Max Carlson taking first in the 400 with his time of 50.21. Michael Weber earned a first-place finish in the 1600, turning in a 4:47.02; Evan Criddle finished fourth, and Samuel Willson fifth. Bracken Hanson finished third in the 3200.
In other individual events, Carter Branch finished second in the 110-meter hurdles, followed by Riley Palmer, Bradley Sweeney, and Andrew Loveless, as the Dinos finished second through fifth. In the 300 hurdles, Sweeney finished in second and Branch took fourth. Kayden Vasquez claimed fourth in the 100-meter.
In relays, Dexter Packard, Deagan Richards, Benjamin Simms, and Vasquez tied for second in the 4×100, and Sweeney, Branch, Carlson, and Carson Taylor ran to a second-place finish in the 4×400.
Packard earned a top finish in the long jump, with Richards finishing second, and Simms took fifth. Branch finished in fourth place in the high jump.
The Dinos will welcome 15 schools from around the area to Carbon High on Friday for the Eastern Utah Championships. The competition will start at 1:00 p.m.
