Carbon boys’ soccer closed out the regular season on Tuesday on the road in Mount Pleasant, taking on the North Sanpete Hawks. The Dinos approached this contest like every other this season and came away with a win, 6-0, giving Cannon Mortensen his school record ninth shut-out of the season.
On Wednesday morning, the Utah High School Activities Association released the final RPI of the season, with the Ogden Tigers sitting in the top spot at a perfect 14-0. Region 12 was represented well, with three teams in the top five: Manti ended in second, Carbon landed in third, and Canyon View landed in fourth. Ben Lomond rounded out the top five. Carbon will start the postseason on April 30 when they will face the North Sanpete Hawks at home.
Carbon was all business in this one, coming out in the first half and adding four goals to take the 4-0 at the half. The Dinos found the back of the net twice more in the second to earn the 6-0 win.
Luke Brady earned a hat trick, scoring three goals for Carbon. Lincoln Atwood had two goals and an assist, Case Griffeth had a goal and an assist, and Donavyn Prescott and Logan McEvoy each had an assist in the win. Cannon Mortensen earned his ninth shutout this season.
Carbon now faces the task of beating the same team three times in one season, which is not as easy as it sounds. In their first meeting this season, the Dinos earned a 3-0 win in Price, and after Tuesday’s big win, we will see what the Dinos can put together to advance to the next round.
The game next Wednesday is set for a 4:00 p.m. start.
