The Dinos were looking for the season sweep of the Juab Wasps on Friday when they met in Price. Coming off a win in extra innings earlier in the week, Carbon’s confidence was high, especially as they headed into the seventh tied, but the Wasps earned the 10-2 win off of an eight-run final at bat.
Carbon is 8-13 overall and 6-6 in Region 12, with two games left this season. The RPI will not be available until next Tuesday, May 6, when the final rankings and the bracket for the State Championships will be released. The playoffs will start on May 8 and 9.
The Dinos got on the board first in the bottom of the second with two outs when Logan Madrigal sent a double to left, bringing in Maddex Willson. Carbon added another run in the third when Rydge Butler stole third and then scored on an error by the third baseman, giving Carbon a 2-1 lead.
Juab would tie things up in the sixth 2-2, and held Carbon off the board in the bottom of the frame. The Wasps would do their damage in the top of the seventh. Juab put some distance between them and the Dinos with a grand slam home run to take a 7-2 lead, and then four batters later, a two-run homer capped off the scoring to put the Wasps up 10-2. Carbon couldn’t find any offense in the bottom of the inning, taking the loss.
Willson was 2-3 with a run scored for Carbon. Butler went 1-3 with a run, and Madrigal was 1-3 with an RBI in the loss.
Carbon used four pitchers in the game with Stockton Kennedy getting the start, going two innings, giving up one earned run on two hits, and striking out three. Paxton Falk went four innings with four earned runs on three hits and struck out six. Willson came in and surrendered five runs, two earned, on four hits, and Madrigal earned one strikeout.
Carbon closes out the season this week with games against Emery. On Tuesday, the Spartans will come to Price for Senior Day, and then on Friday, the Dinos travel to Castle Dale.
Both games are set for a 3:00 start time.
