The Lady Dino softball team closed their regular season on Tuesday on the road, facing the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs. The contest started quietly for both teams, but Carbon’s bats came alive in the fourth and fifth when they put seven runs on the board on the way to a 9-4 win, their sixth in a row.

Carbon ended the regular season with a 12-14 overall record and went 8-6 in region play. Gunnison is a powerhouse team from the 2A ranks, with a 19-9 mark.

Neither team collected a hit until Carbon broke the seal in the fourth when Aleece Ardohain and Kennlee Kennedy would smack back-to-back singles. Brailee Peterson dug in and hit a double to center, bringing Ardohain home. Danica Adams grounded out, but that gave Kennedy the chance to score. In the fifth, the Lady Dinos put five runs on the board, starting with an Alexa Jones grounder that brought in Katie Vea. After an Ardohain walk, Kennedy stepped up and sent a double to center, allowing Ardohain and Sienna Alderson to score. Adams came up in the inning with two on, sending a grounder to right, driving in Peterson and Kennedy to give Carbon the 7-0 lead.

The Lady Dinos added a couple more in the top of the seventh off a two-out Sage Vea double to right field, bringing Peterson and Jenna Pulsipher home to give Carbon the 9-0 lead. The Bulldogs were able to get four runs on the board in the bottom of the frame before the Dinos shut them down to get the win.

Kennedy led the way for Carbon, going 2-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Peterson was also 2-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI. Adams was 1-3 with three RBIs, and Sage Vea went 1-4 with two RBIs in the win.

Adams started on the mound, going six innings and giving up one hit while striking out 13. Katie Vea closed the contest with four earned runs on three hits.
