The USU Eastern baseball team has advanced to the Scenic West Athletic Conference Region 18 Championship after securing two pivotal victories over the College of Southern Idaho.

In the first game of the series, USU Eastern capitalized on a five-run third inning to establish a commanding lead. Truman Duryea led the charge with a three-RBI performance, while McGwire Jephson and Hunter Gatti each contributed key hits to drive in runs. On the mound, Landon Salvesen delivered a strong six-inning outing, striking out 11 batters and allowing only three runs. Relievers Tahj Henrie and Dagen Gammell combined to shut down CSI’s offense over the final three innings, securing a 7-3 victory for Eastern.

The second game showcased USU Eastern’s offensive depth, as the team amassed 15 hits en route to a 10-7 win. McGwire Jephson’s three-run homer in the fourth inning was a highlight, complemented by Jake Lindsay’s three RBI’s and Peyton Adams’ two-run contribution. Pitcher Kade Hansen earned the win, with Harley Vicchrilli and Dagen Gammell providing effective relief to close out the game.

With these victories, USU Eastern advances to the SWAC Region 18 Championship, where they will face the top-seeded team and the 16th-ranked SLCC Bruins.  That best-of-three game series will begin on Thursday, May 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Cate Field in West Jordan, Utah. Eastern’s performance also secures their spot in the NJCAA West District Tournament, bringing them one step closer to the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series.
