There are a few important dates coming up this spring for students that are in the USU-Eastern GEAR UP program, which is an acronym for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs at Carbon, Emery and Green River High Schools.
Any high school seniors interested in the Ambassador program, SUN Center and/or Student Government need to mark their calendars for an important event taking place on Friday, March 17. “The USU-Eastern Leadership Day is an opportunity for students who plan on going to USU-Eastern next year to go to campus and you have the opportunity there to learn about leadership positions,” said Brandon Flores, Director. “Also, to actually apply for some scholarships that have to do with leadership.” Students that get involved with activities on campus tend to do better academically. The event will be held at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center.
There are also two more field trips scheduled for GEAR UP students. On Friday, March 24, students will head up north for a campus visit to Weber State University in Ogden and then on Thursday, April 13 they will head up to Utah State University in Logan. “If you are at Carbon High, Lighthouse, Pinnacle, Emery High or Green River High and you’re in the GEAR UP program you can sign-up and go to that. We do have a waiting list because we fill up really quickly, get a permission slip from your GEAR UP advisor at your high school,” stated Flores. Campus visits opens up options for students to see what other programs our out there that may not be an options locally.
Any students that may be interested in the GEAR UP program or parents who have students in the program that may have questions about financial aid, scholarships or admissions may contact the office at (435) 613-5648 or visit their website at https://usueastern.edu/price/gearup/about/index
