With the opening of Price City’s Culture Connection series of concerts only a week away, Price City Councilmember Layne Miller joined the KOAL Newsroom to preview the 2025 concert season and speak on the importance of music to the community.
“People are excited, people can’t wait,” shared Miller. “As soon as the flyer came out, people told me they needed a flyer. The good thing about doing this is people can now see when their favorite groups are performing. I’ve done this. I’ve looked at the list, saw Price Floyd, and thought I want to watch Price Floyd. Well, that’s at Helper vibes, so I was able to put that in my calendar.”
Speaking on the power of music, Miller shared a personal experience that showed him how important jamming out can be. “I went to my daughter’s house in Farmington over the weekend. And as I got in her car, a song came on: ‘ Pink Pony Club.’ I’d never heard of it. She said this is Shiloh’s favorite song. Well, Shiloh is my great-granddaughter, who’s four. And I said you mean Shiloh has her taste in music? And she said, ‘Dad, I have a playlist in my car for Shiloh.'”
Building on this story, Miller discussed how events like Culture Connection can unite the community: ” I always get there early to make sure everything’s set up and ready to go. And I see families Walking to the park carrying their lawn chairs and getting ready. And you know mom and dad are going to sit there and listen if the kids get bored; there’s a playground for them.”
Moving forward, Miller highlighted a few of this year’s performers: ” On July 10 for Culture Connection, we have Fleetwood Visions, a tribute to Fleetwood Mac … Then during International Days, we’re going to have an ABBA tribute band. My wife has been spreading that to all my family, and I’ve got family members coming from Salt Lake just to hear ABBA.”
On a personal note, Miller spoke on what band he was most excited to see: ” I always enjoy Los Hermanos de Los Andes, and they’re opening for International Days on July 24. And you know, they provide a unique sound that you’re not going to hear anywhere else, really in the States; it’s really international.”
Culture Connection wouldn’t be possible without Ted Hinckley’s behind-the-scenes work, with Miller taking the time to discuss his impact: ” He’s been doing this for years and he does it professionally. He can solve a problem before I even know there’s a problem, and he has been such a boon to what we do. He makes my job a lot easier and creates something that is a lot better for everybody.”
In closing, Miller shared,” Be ready. Get your lawn chairs out and get the dirt and the dust off. We’re going to have food trucks and other things going on, so it’s going to be a real experience. That starts June 12, so Thursday of next week at 7 p.m. in Washington Park.”
Opening the festivities is indie pop group the Bombshell Flowers. More information on this and other events is available on pricecityutah.com or on the city’s Facebook page.
