
Arrows flew in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where the National Archery in Schools Program World Championships were held over the weekend. Schools from Carbon and Emery counties participated, and Carbon High School Archery earned the top prize in 3D shooting.
Carbon High, Mont Harmon Middle, Creekview, and Castle Heights Elementary Schools represented the Carbon district, and Huntington Elementary School represented Emery.
Almost 700 teams nationwide worked toward this final goal to close out their seasons in the 3D competition, and over 1600 teams participated in the Bullseye tournament.
The Carbon High team had a tremendous showing in 3D shooting, earning the World Championship by scoring 1730 points, beating the second-place school, Heartland High School from Michigan, by 21 points. For Carbon, Michael Weber finished with 295 points, taking fifth, two points behind champion Masen Chambers of Greenway Schools out of Minnesota.
The Dinos also finished third in bullseye with an overall score of 3349. Saltillo High School from Mississippi won the championship, scoring 3450; Madison Central High School finished second with 3378.
Mont Harmon Middle School claimed third place overall in the 3D shoot, scoring 1638. Hartland Middle of Michigan claimed the top spot, scoring 1688. Kortland Sinclair finished eighth overall, scoring 292.
The Mont Harmon team also earned a fifth-place finish in the bullseye shoot. Colton Steele took third overall with a score of 294 points, two points off the pace set by Gunnar Couch of Grand Bay Middle School of Alabama.Kortland Sinclair tied for seventh with 293 points.
Castle Heights earned an eighth-place finish in the elementary level 3D shoot, scoring 1513. Elk Elementary claimed the first-place finish, scoring 1572.
Kate Black from Creekview Elementary finished in eighth place overall in the 3D shoot in the girls division.
Reno Truman of Huntington Elementary finished 53 out of 271 archers in the 3D competition.
