In recent weeks, protests have erupted across the nation. On Saturday, June 14, more than 1,500 protests are planned under the ‘No Kings’ banner, including a gathering in Price.

The organization behind the protests is the 50501 Movement, which has been protesting the Trump administration since early April. The group describes itself as “a grassroots movement,” with “all local events organized by independent volunteers.”

Specifically for the ‘No Kings’ rally, the event is scheduled to coincide with the Military Parade in Washington, D.C., ordered by President Donald Trump to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. It also coincides with President Trump’s 79th birthday.

The last time a military parade was held in the U.S. was in 1991, under former President George H.W. Bush, marking the end of the Gulf War.

The organizer tool kit for the rally states, “We’re standing together against the abuses of power, cruelty, and corruption. On June 14, we gather to remind President Trump and his enablers: America has No King!”

The Carbon County Democratic Party is hosting the event in Price. Party Chair Allan Sumnall said of the event,” What we’re doing this Saturday is saying hey, come out and listen to us. We’re not interested in culture wars. We’re not interested in throwing names around. We just want to talk to our neighbors. We think we have a good argument. We think we have good data. We’re simply concerned.”

Citing specific concerns, Sumnall stated, “We’re trying to educate about certain things. My biggest concern is what’s being done to our judiciary right now. That’s kind of a what I’ve been concerned about.”

The official page for the Carbon County Democratic Party elaborates on this point: “We are on the sidelines while local and national leaders passively sit by as our institutions are attacked. We are simply asking for you to come out and hear our speakers. Enjoy time with neighbors and make your voice known. Show us you love Carbon County by showing up.”

Public reaction to the announcement of the Price rally has been mixed. Fear has been escalated by recent activity in Los Angeles, where both the National Guard and Marines were sent in.

The Price’ No Kings’ Rally will be held on Saturday, June 14, beginning at noon at 350 East Main Street in Price.
