Our loving and patient father, grandfather, and brother, Wendell H. Sheriff, passed away on June 22, 2025, in Price, Utah, with his daughters by his side.
Wendell was born on August 16, 1932, in Lynndyl, Utah, to Clifford Anderson Sheriff and Retha Houskeeper. As a young child, he moved to Sandy, Utah, where he spent the majority of his life.
After graduating from Jordan High School, Wendell was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He was deeply proud of his military service. From his time in the Army, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Upon returning home, Wendell began working as a lineman at Kennecott Copper, where he earned the nickname “Windy.” Not long after, he met his sweetheart, Sharon Hughes. They were married on August 24, 1956, and together built a life in Sandy, raising four children: Wendy, Steve, Karee, and Kim. Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his children, whom he loved dearly.
Wendell enjoyed camping, woodworking, tending his vegetable garden, and could fix just about anything. After retiring, he always looked forward to his weekly lunches with his Kennecott buddies, forming many lasting friendships.
In 2019, he was honored to participate in Utah’s Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., where he visited the memorials and monuments dedicated to the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans. He often said it was one of the greatest highlights of his life.
In 2023, Wendell moved to the Heirloom Inn in Price, Utah, to be near his daughter Karee. He looked forward to Wednesday night date nights with Karee and Sunday dinners with her and her family. He remained independent until the end of his life.
We are so grateful for the many years we were able to spend with him. “He was a good guy.”
Wendell is survived by his daughters: Wendy (Larry) Carter, Karee (Jeff) Hunt, and Kim (Mark) Magnuson; daughter-in-law, Robyn Sheriff; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his brother, Kevin; and sisters, Renon Bennet and Linda (Tom) Bartunek.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Sharon; his son, Steve; cherished granddaughter, Kristy Hunt Manzanares; three brothers; and two sisters.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of the Heirloom Inn for their compassionate care and friendship. He truly enjoyed the time he was able to spend with you.
