On the evening of Thursday, July 17, the Carbon Metro Drug Task Force executed a search warrant alongside the Carbon County SWAT team for a residence in Price located next to a child daycare facility.

The warrant service took place at approximately 9:40 p.m., with members of the CMDTF, Carbon County SWAT, Price City Police and Carbon County Sheriff’s Office present at the scene to assist.

After securing the residence and the occupants within, one of the suspects notified authorities of the possibility of fentanyl powder exposure. After confirming the presence of a large amount of suspected fentanyl, law enforcement officials evacuated the building, as it was a multi-residential complex with shared ventilation.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Carbon County Ambulance and Carbon County Hazmat teams were called in.

“We want to thank our first responder partners as this was truly a group effort,” reads a release from the Price City Police Department. “We are very appreciative of their assistance, time, and expertise.”

This bust comes at a time when the Utah Department of Public Safety has reported a 70% increase in law enforcement’s seizures of fentanyl since January and a 1.5% decrease in overdose deaths in 2024.

The names of those arrested have not been released.
