Joseph B. Burum passed away August 2, 2025 at the age of 78, at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo surrounded by his family.  He and his identical twin brother were born February 4, 1947 in Price, Utah to Joseph Frank and Ella Mae Hankins Burum.  At birth, he lived in Latuda, Utah until his parents moved to East Carbon where he attended local schools and graduated from East Carbon High School in 1966. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas.  He was then transferred to the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam where he spent the next year until being honorably discharged in 1968.

He met his future wife, Jean Warner in 1967 while on leave prior to being deployed to Vietnam. During his service they corresponded, and after being discharged, they reconnected and were married in May of 1969, in Price, Utah. Together they had two sons, Joe Jr. and Tim.

After marriage, Joe and Jean moved to Paonia, Colorado where Joe worked in the U.S. Steel mine in Somerset, Colorado.  When the mine closed in 1985, he worked at several mines including U.S. Fuel in Hiawatha, Utah.  Eventually he was hired at FMC mine in Green River, Wyoming where he spent the next 21 years.  Shortly after retiring, he and Jean relocated to Price, Utah so he could live near his sister, Helen.

Joe is survived by his wife, Jean; his sons, Joe Jr. (Angelica), Plain City, Utah and Tim (Candy) Burum, Hotchkiss, Colorado; brother, Mike (Mary Jo) Burum, Paonia, Colorado; and grandsons, Joey, Mason, and Jett Burum.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Teddy, R.L. and Hansel Burum; sisters, Helen Henrie and Linda Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Towers to Tunnels Foundation in Joe’s memory.

Graveside service, Wednesday, August 13th, 2025, 11:00 a.m., Cliffview Cemetery, in Price, Utah.
