With love in our hearts and gratitude for the time we shared, we remember Dennis Orlando Gomez—a cherished son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend—who passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the age of 70.
Born in Dragerton, Utah, Dennis was the youngest of eight children to Benjamin and Eva Gomez. Raised in the close-knit community of Spring Glen, he attended Helper Junior High and graduated from Carbon High School. From an early age, Dennis carried a spirit of adventure and a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys.
He found freedom on the open road, riding motorcycles with his brothers and friends. The outdoors was his second home—whether hunting, fishing, camping, or boating with loved ones. He was just as skilled gliding over water as he was on snow, leaving behind cherished memories of summers at the lake and winters on the slopes.
A hardworking man, Dennis dedicated years to the coal mines and Gomez Masonry. His compassion was evident in every part of his life. When the Crandall Canyon Mine disaster occurred, Dennis’s heart ached deeply that his own recent heart attack kept him from helping those in need—a true testament to his selflessness and care for others.
Dennis leaves behind his partner, Shirley Peak; his son, Robert (Meranda) Gomez; his daughters, Brena (Brendan) Simkins, Karina (Richard) Boyden, Tami Wright, and Shalese (Bob) Cousins; his bonus children, Delana, Jay, Raelyn; and his 30 treasured grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his unwavering loyalty, and his ability to make everyone feel like family. Though he is no longer with us, the memories he gave will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Preceded in death by his parents Ben and Eva Gomez; his two brothers, Robert, Ben (LouAnn); and his sister, Delores (Benny Martinez).
He is survived by three brothers Frank Gomez, John Gomez, Mike Gomez, and one sister, Evelyn Kosmack.
