The golf season for Region 13 got underway on Monday in Richfield at the Cove View Course. The region looks a little different this season as the Spartans will face some new faces. One of those new faces, the Union Cougars, finished in the top spot of the first match of the season, scoring 315; the Spartans landed in third with a 346.

The Spartans said goodbye to their top golfers from last season as Alex Hansen and Dempsey Toomer both graduated, leaving room for underclassmen to step up.

Union claimed the top spot, shooting a 315, and Carbon came in second with 319. Emery took third with 346; North Sanpete (360) and Manti (372) rounded out the remainder of the field. Dayton King of Carbon had the low round of 73.

For the Spartans, it was Champ Justice with the low round of 81, Easton Stoker shot an 86, Owen Blackham had an 89, and Peyton Nielson and Bronx Olsen both shot a 90. Bodee Norton (91), Staton Bingham (103), and Brendon Behunin (103) also took part in the match for the Spartans.

They will be back on the road next Tuesday when they travel to North Sanpete and the Skyline Mountain Resort.
