Grand County, UT – The Southeast Utah Health Department (SEUHD) has confirmed a
positive Measles case in Grand County. This is an unvaccinated individual under the
age of 18 who was exposed to a positive case outside of Grand County. There are no

actively conducting contact tracing to notify individuals who may have been exposed
and to prevent further spread of the virus. Due to medical privacy laws, SEUHD will not

Measles is a highly contagious disease, but outbreaks remain rare thanks to a highly
effective vaccine. The Southeast Utah Health Department wants to reassure the
community that immediate action is being taken to contain the situation.
Measles symptoms, which typically appear 7 to 14 days after exposure, can include:
● High fever
● Cough
● Runny nose
● Red, watery eyes
● A rash that starts on the face and spreads downward
Anyone experiencing these symptoms, especially if they are unvaccinated or have been
in contact with a known case, should contact their healthcare provider. The best way to
prevent measles is through vaccination. The MMR vaccine is safe and highly effective,
providing lifelong protection for most individuals. Individuals who are unsure about their
vaccination status should check their immunization records and consult their healthcare
provider.
