Hunting for their first region win since 2018, the Carbon Dinos welcomed the Canyon View Falcons to town on Friday, Sept. 5. A dominant rushing performance from the Falcons paved the way for Canyon View to leave Carbon County with a 42-6 victory.
Receiving the opening kickoff, Canyon View ran the ball seven consecutive times, moving 65 yards downfield on an opening drive capped off with an eight-yard scamper to the goal line by quarterback Ryder Miller.
Forcing a punt from the Dinos, the Falcons again marched downfield via the rushing attack, grounding and pounding through another drive. Canyon View would switch things up and opt to attempt a bomb downfield, with Miller finding running back Jace Floyd along the sideline for a 36-yard score.
The Falcons’ run would be capped off with another Miller score, rushing four yards and into the end zone to create a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter.
Searching for an answer, the Dinos would look to Jordan Nicholas, who, for the second straight week on a kickoff, returned the ball 90 yards to the house to break the goose egg. A missed extra point set the stage for a 21-6 Canyon View advantage.
The Falcons scored once more before the midway buzzer sounded, elevating the score to 28-6 as both teams headed to the locker room.
Starting with the ball in the second half, the Dinos were forced to punt near midfield, pinning Canyon View on the one-yard line. Over the next 10 minutes, Canyon View methodically worked downfield on a 99-yard scoring drive capped off by a six-yard rush by Floyd, making it 35-6 in favor of the Falcons.
Canyon View scored once more in the contest, with Floyd collecting his third touchdown of the evening on a 9-yard sprint to the promised land, creating a final score of 42-6.
Junior running back Dexter Packard put in the work for Carbon, tallying 56 rushing yards and 22 receiving yards. Quarterback Kayden Dunn threw for 53 yards while adding 40 on the ground.
Carbon (2-2) looks to bounce back on Friday, Sept. 12, as they travel down south to face the Richfield Wildcats (3-1) in a region showdown. Richfield enters the contest hot off a 28-14 victory over North Sanpete.
