As youth sports return to the field for the fall season, the team at Carbon Events and Recreation is hard at work preparing events for youth and adults to enjoy. Kourtney Cox and Alex Peczuh from CERCUT joined the KOAL newsroom to reflect on recent success and look ahead to future events.

On Saturday, Sept. 6, CERCUT aided in the annual Carbon County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Demolition Derby Fundraiser, which drew increased attendance from 2024 in both spectators and participants. “We’ve been growing over the last couple of years, the group that’s been putting this together, search-and-rescue, along with a few county volunteers, and then circuit, and we’ve worked really hard to streamline some processes to make the experience better for both the spectators and the participants,” shared Cox. “And so with that, we’ve seen growth every year, including this year, where we saw an additional 17 cars on top of what we had participated in last year’s derby.”

Moving from the past and into the present, Peczuh discussed rookie league Jr. Jazz registration, which closes on Sept. 10, stating,” We’ll play games Thursday evenings starting in October, and it’s open to boys and girls from pre-K to second grade.”

Continued Peczuh,” It’s $40 per player if you need a little junior jazz jersey, that is an additional $10. We get new ones every year, and they kind of match what the jazz uniforms are this year. And so that’s just a really fun way to connect with the Jazz … The bottom line is these kids want to be out there having a good time, playing and seeing their Friends.”

Switching subjects, Peczuh spoke on the upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness 5k walk/run hosted in conjunction with Castleview Hospital. “This was previously known as the ‘Diva Dash’, and we’re really excited to be bringing this back … You can do the walk or the run. It will be Oct. 4, and we’ll start at the hospital, and then we’ll do a big loop and back up at the hospital.”

The 5K costs $20 per participant, with a group discount applied for groups of three or more. Race T-shirts are available for purchase for $12 before Sept. 14.

For the team at CERCUT, the position is more than hosting events, but creating memories for attendees,” One of the things that Alex actually brought up to somebody yesterday and I’ve heard her say this multiple times is that she loves being involved in the people’s memories,” shared Cox. “She loves creating things that end up being some of people’s core memories. That’s a wonderful way to put it. We love hosting these events. We love supporting them.

We love creating them ourselves and bringing them to the community. We have just as much fun watching people enjoy these things as the people who are participating.”
