Looking to celebrate the Castle Country and its natural wonders, the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce gathered in downtown Price to celebrate the opening of Sticks, Stones & Dino Bones – the newest rock shop in the area.
Speaking at the opening was owner Kathie Chadbourne, who provided an introduction to the business. “We have a rock shop, we’re really mostly focusing on Utah, but of course we have rocks from all over the place.) We have a little coffee bar that you can come and grab a cup of coffee as you walk around the shop.”
She added, “In the back of our shop, we have a small art gallery where we would like for people from Price to come and bring a piece of their art, show it for a month, put a price on it, and if you sell it, all the money goes to that artist. No consignment fees.”
The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., then closes for an hour and reopens from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Additionally, Chadbourne hopes to host classes on rock polishing and cutting by partnering with the Utah State University Eastern Prehistoric Museum.
“I love dinosaurs and I feel so fortunate, like, how in the world did this happen right across the street from the Prehistoric Museum,” said Chadbourne, who also shared her favorite dinosaurs are the Allosaurus and Utahraptor.
Located in the old Atwood Barbershop building, Chadbourne shared how she wanted to keep a piece of the building’s history alive: “I’m working with the Atwoods. The Atwood Barbershop is a destination, and I wanted to maintain that status. So, there’s an entire wall in the back with barber memorabilia and honoring the family.”
Reflecting on her journey opening the business, Chadbourne shared her favorite part of the experience: “It’s the people walking in the door while I’m carrying boxes or buckets of rocks and looking at the rocks and saying, ‘I’ll be back, but could I just buy this one right now?’ Of course, you can.”
Sticks, Stones & Dino Bones is located at 127 East, 100 North in Price. To keep up with the shop, you can follow it on Facebook and Instagram.
