Looking to connect the community with the credit union and local businesses, Eastern Utah Credit Union is hosting the ‘Great Piggy Payout’, a scavenger hunt that gives participants the chance to win $1,000 while exploring the Castle Country.

EUCCU Regional Branch Manager Joel Hatch joined the KOAL newsroom to preview the hunt and discuss the importance of the credit union’s involvement in the community.

“We have our mascot, Penny, Penny the Pig. And Penny is going to be around town in secret locations. We’re going to give out clues that you can either get on social media, or come to the branch, we’re going to give you a clue,” explained Hatch of the hunt. “You’re going to hunt out Penny, you’re going to take a picture with Penny and post it on your social media, tag EUCCU, and that’s your entry.”

Speaking from the credit union’s perspective, Hatch shared what the motive behind the promotion is,” Our goal is to get people to go out and about to the other stores and places in our community and participate in the community. And that’s our goal, is for people to go on a pig hunt, and we want to give away some money.”

However, Penny the Pig looks to make this challenge harder by being stealthy. “She is a very sneaky pig. And you’ll see her wave and make motions, but she doesn’t ever say a word, so she’s really sneaky … Unfortunately, I can’t have Penny at the store all day long. So we have a cutout. But the cutout is posed so that it looks like a hand or arm around you and waving with you. So you can post however you’d like and get that selfie.”

Clues for the hunt are available on social media or by going to an EUCCU branch and asking for the clue.

With a $1000 prize on the line, each photo with Penny earns an entry into the contest,” we are going to pay that out before the holiday season starts. So you could use it for gifts, you could use it for travel, or you could use it for food because you’re going to have everybody at your house.”

Looking at the community aspect of the event, Hatch shared,” It is all about being involved with the community and the people around us. And that’s why we’ve chosen to do this again: to get people out of their regular routine and go somewhere to look for the pig. And so it’s going to be in stores and places that you would travel normally or that you would go shopping normally.”

Closing our conversation, Hatch stated,” We have some great promotions. We serve our communities, and we’d like you to come in. And so, therefore, we want you to go on a pig hunt and go look for Penny and look for the clues on social media.”
