Lady Spartan volleyball was in Roosevelt to take on the Union Cougars on Tuesday. Emery collected a win in the first set, but the Cougars came back, winning the next two. The Spartans earned the hard-fought victory in the fourth set, but Union took the fifth set, winning the match 3-2.
Emery falls to 8-12 overall and 1-5 in Region 13 play. They currently sit in the No. 15 spot in the latest rankings.
In the first set, the Lady Spartans jumped out to an early lead and held on to take the 25-15 victory. Union captured back-to-back wins in set two, 25-16, and set three, 25-14. The fourth set could have gone either way as the Cougars were looking to close out the Spartans, and Emery was looking to force a fifth set, and it was the Lady Spartans taking the 30-28 win to tie things up at two sets each. The fifth and final set was setting up to be another battle, but Union found the edge to win 15-11, taking the 3-2 match win.
Emery will travel to Richfield for the Sevier Valley Invitational on Friday and Saturday. As of now, they are scheduled to take on Panguitch (No. 1 in 2A), South Sevier (No. 10 in 2A), and Richfield (No. 7 in 3A).
When they return, the Lady Spartans will have just a pair of games left in the regular season. On Tuesday, the 14th, they will travel to Price to take on the Lady Dinos. Emery will wrap up the regular season on Thursday, the 16th, when North Sanpete comes to the Spartan Center for Senior Night.
