Malia Smith continued her fantastic season for the Lady Dinos on Wednesday in the opening round of the 3A State Championships in Price. Smith collected five goals on Carbon’s way to moving on to the next round with the 12-0 win over the Providence Hall Patriots.

Smith’s five goals moved her to 48 on the season, ranking her as one of the top goal scorers in the state across all classifications.

The Lady Dinos played every bit of their No. 2 ranking against the No. 15 Patriots, jumping out in the opening half and finding the back of the net eight times. Madi Barlow in goal was well on her way to her 10th shutout of the season. In the second half, Carbon slowed things down offensively and defensively, adding four more goals, while Barlow closed the door on Providence Hall and advanced the Dinos to a 12-0 win.

Blythe Bradford and Naomi Smith each added two goals to add to Malia Smith’s five for Carbon. Naomi Smith collected a staggering seven assists, and Malia Smith added two assists as well. Lydia Lancaster, Chrissy Jones, and Bailey Johnson all added one goal, and Johnson added an assist. Saren Nelson and Taree Pressett both added assists in the big win. Barlow had one save in goal.

Carbon will be back on the pitch on Saturday at 1:00 pm at the field at Carbon High in Price. They will face the No. 10 Logan Grizzlies. A win advances the Lady Dinos to the semifinals on October 23 at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.
