cs-005-4

The season came to a close for the Lady Dinos on Thursday in the 3A State Championship semifinals as they faced the Manti Templars for the third time this season. Carbon was triumphant in their first two outings and looked to be on their way to the finals, but Manti would come back to tie the contest and then take the win in overtime, 3-2.

The Lady Dinos claimed the No. 2 spot in the final rankings and reached the semifinals by earning a convincing 12-0 win over Providence Hall in the opening round. In the quarterfinal round, they faced the Logan Grizzlies. It was a hard-fought battle, but Carbon earned a 1-0 victory to punch their ticket to take on the Templars. Carbon claimed victories over Manti in their region meetings, but the Templars proved that it is, in fact, challenging to beat the same team three times in the same season.

Both teams had their defenses up in the first half, and neither could find a goal, so they went into halftime tied at 0-0. In the second half, the Lady Dinos jumped out with a pair of goals by Kenzie Morgan and Blythe Bradford to put Carbon up 2-0. Just when it looked like they would be advancing to face the Ogden Tigers on Saturday, the Templars came back with less than 10 minutes left in the contest to score their first goal and then the second to tie up the contest and force overtime.

In the 10-minute overtime period, both teams knew that the next goal would win the contest, and they played like it. The Templars and the Dinos turned up the defensive heat even more, and just when it looked as though the competition would go into a second overtime period, Manti snuck one past Madi Barlow to take the 3-2 victory, ending the Dinos’ season.

Carbon closes the 2025 campaign with an 18-3 overall mark with the No. 2 spot in the final rankings.
