Madeleine Mason Nyffeler, 74, passed away peacefully at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
Madelaine was born on June 3rd, 1951 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to the late Sterling and Lelia (Christiansen) Mason. She graduated from Skyline High School in 1969. While attending Ricks College following high school a tall handsome sailor caught her eye; she and Dean Nyffeler were married July 1, 1971. They were later sealed in the Logan temple on October 1, 1974. The next few years saw them stationed at the US Naval Base in Rota, Spain and then in Groton, Connecticut. They would spend time in Provo, Utah and Roswell, New Mexico, before eventually settling in Price, Utah.
A lifelong member of the LDS church, Madelaine was known for her excellent lessons in Relief Society, her participation in road shows, writing and directing Christmas programs and many years serving in the scouting program. She received the Silver Beaver award, the highest council-level honor given to adult volunteers who made a significant impact on youth through scouting. She and Dean especially loved their most recent calling serving the residents of the Parkdale assisted living facility in Price. Madelaine also loved to learn, was an avid reader and enjoyed writing. She earned her teaching credentials in History and English through Eastern New Mexico University. The majority of her career was dedicated to teaching English at Mont Harmon Junior High although after retiring once, she was persuaded to return to teach theater and later film studies at the Lighthouse alternative high school. Later, she would earn a real estate license and developed a passion for helping others find their next home in the Carbon County area. She was also an active member of Castle Valley Community Theatre and enjoyed performing as well as working in nearly every technical area over the years. Watching her daughters and grandchildren perform on stage and play sports were some of her greatest joys. When she wasn’t courtside or in the audience, she could be found with a dog (or cat) on her lap and a book in her hand.
Madelaine is survived by her husband Dean Nyffeler, her daughters Nicole Nyffeler, Lizanell Boman (Tony) and Marenna Chulick (Ben), her four grandchildren, Jacob and Madilyn Boman, Annika and Makenna Chulick. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Wright (John) and her brothers Kimballl Mason (Christine), Joseph Mason (Colleen), Paul Mason (Laura) and Thomas Mason (Jennifer), her sister-in-law Beth Merriman (Randy) and many nieces and nephews.
At her request she has been cremated. A celebration of her life will be held in 2026. In lieu of flowers, please support your local community theater or high school theatre program.
Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Castle Valley Funerals & Cremations where family and friends are always welcome and may share memories online at www.castlevalleyfunerals.com.
